Shawshank Redemption

I thought Count of Monte Cristo was good movie, Papillon was a master piece, until I saw Shawshank Redemption.

This movie more than just a prison break. Its about patience, emotions, hardships and HOPE. Andy Dufresne played by Tim Robbins is sentenced to prison for murdering his wife which he never did. He finds a friend in Red (Morgan Freeman), guy who can get you anything.

The movie shows how people keep them busy between the four walls, which is their world for long years. Andy uses his banking background to help prison guards and warden to save tax returns, plans their investments etc. He also takes over library from brooks (played by James Whitmore) and transforms it into best prison library in the country. He is also able to get cold beer for his friends from his help to the prison guards. It also shows how Andy keeps his hope alive for 19 years that one day he will escape from Shawshank.

Best scene of the movie is when Andy locks himself up in office and plays Opera records in the microphone. He goes into his own world along with the music and feels like a free man. Aldous Huxley has rightly said - "After silence, that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music." Tough he gets a punishment to stay in solitude for a month, but he doesn't care, he enjoyed those few minutes of freedom.

At first you might think, this must be another prison break movie, but the way its narrated, the way script is written makes it different from other movies. The dialogues are good, flow of the movie is good and acting is brilliant. At the end, you will surely say - What a movie!

It didn't win a Oscar as 1994 saw some of the best releases like Forrest Gump, Pulp Fiction, but I would rate it 10/10.

If you want to pump up your spirits, watch this movie. If you want to know power of hope, watch this movie. Nodoubt this is one of the best movies I have ever seen.

As the tagline goes - Fear can hold you prisoner. Hope can set you free.
